173 crore will be spent on Khajuraho development

One hundred and 73 crore will be spent on development of tourism at internationally famous tourism centre Khajuraho and surrounding tourism districts. At the first meeting of Khajuraho Tourism Area Development Authority the above and several other decisions were taken. The meeting discussed about developing Khajuraho Airport to international level and to improve the present transport system for facilitating visiting of more tourists. It may be mentioned here that during the last two years - between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009 - two lakh 94 thousand tourists had visited Khajuraho. Among them 79 thousand were tourists from foreign countries and the rest 2 lakh 15 thousand were from different parts of this country. This means that the flow of tourists to Khajuraho was 12 thousand 250 per month or 2 thousand 827 per week or 403 tourists per day.

Former IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre Dr. Ishwardas discussed in detail about the efforts made by the Madhya Pradesh Government for development of Khajuraho during the years 1978, 1991, 1995 and 1998 and also given more information through power presentation prepared by INTACH institution.

The meeting discussed in detail about the important development works to be done in Khajuraho area. Chaired by the Divisional Commissioner Shri S. K. Ved, the meeting was informed that the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) has prepared important programme of 24 construction works costing Rs one hundred and 73 crore in and around Khajuraho. According to the proposed programmes the road between Bamitha to Khajuraho will be developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore like that of VIP Road of Bhopal. There will be landscaping work on the sides of Bamitha-Khajuraho Road at a cost of Rs 5 crore, development of all road junctions of Khajuraho at a cost of Rs 2 crore, beautification work of Benisagar Dam, water sports in the dam and adventure sports costing Rs 5 crore, underground electricity cable network system in Khajuraho costing Rs 7 to 10 crore, landscaping at a cost of Rs 2 crore, beautification of Shivsagar Lake, P:remsagar Lake and Nanoura Lake and construction of ghats at these lakes, deepening of lakes and water sports at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
