(NEWS) NTPC power plant in Lalitpur, Bundelkhand will come up in 6 years

State-owned power producer NTPC on Tuesday said that it would take at least six years to set up the proposed 4,000 MW plant envisaging
an investment of about Rs 18,000 crore in the Bundelkhand region.

NTPC is yet to get in-principle approval from the Uttar Pradesh government for setting up the power project at Bargarh in Chitrakoot district of the state.

"Once the state government gives us in-principle approval, it would not take less than six years for project to get operational," CMD NTPC RS Sharma said.

Setting up power project is very time consuming. After the state government's nod, it would take about six to eight months for feasibility report followed by land acquisition process which would take another one year or so, he said.

The Cabinet last week gave its approval to a special package of Rs 7,266 crore for development of the drought-hit Bundelkhand region that spans across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Asked about supply of equipment for the project, Sharma informed, "The tender for the purpose would be floated during the land acquisition process and would only be awarded once the process is complete."
