Govt. may soon announce relief for Bundelkhand farmers

New Delhi (PTI): Expressing concern over the condition of farmers due to severe drought in Bundelkhand, the Government on Monday informed the Lok Sabha that a special programme for the region would be announced soon.

"Although we have not received any special proposal for the Bundelkhand region, it requires a separate programme and a long-term solution has to be found for the region. We are going in this direction only," Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said in reply to a question.

With regard to Madhya Pradesh's demand for over Rs 1,883 crore from the National Calamity Contingency Fund, the Minister said "it is being considered. A high-level committee will discuss the report from the state."

A decision will be taken on May 8 or 9, Pawar said.
