Rs. 8 Cr. To Be Spent On  Chitrakoot Ghats


Nov 23 : Different works are being carried out for development of the ghats at Chitrakoot at a cost of about Rs eight crore. The Minister of State for Tourism Tukojirao Puar said that in addition to the ghats other important places would also be developed and beautified.

The Minister said that Chitrakoot is associated with various important episodes pertaining to exile life of Ram and it is a great centre of faith. About 40 lakh devotees visit Chitrakoot every year. During the Kumbh and Ardha Kumbh at Allahabad the number of visitors crosses even 90 lakh. Taking a holy dip in sacred Mandakini river is considered a must.

Puar informed that Madhya Pradesh Government has secured sanction of a Rs eight crore project from Union Ministry of Tourism under Circuit Development Scheme to provide better facilities to devotees at the ghats of Chitrakoot. Besides, Dev Talab and Deur Kothar of Rewa district would also be developed.

The Minister said that the development works taken up include upgradation of three-kilometer long ghat on the western bank of Mandakini, construction of shelters for devotees, construction of a bridge to link the banks and railing, lighting and installation of fountains.
