(News) Bundelkhand Plantation Scheme to Plant 10 Crore Sapling

Drought-prone Bundelkhand will get more than two crore saplings this monsoon. The Bundelkhand plantation scheme began with an ambitious target of planting 10 crore saplings in 2008-09. It is entering its fourth year this time. The scheme aims at bettering up the green cover of 11 districts of Bundelkhand and Vindhya region, driven by a thought that increase in green cover would check desertification and ground-water depletion. Besides, it will also generate employment.

Forest department will plant 2.15 crore saplings in the region. The remaining 0.35 crore saplings will be planted by panchayats. The plantation will be done on forest and gram sabha land. The varieties which could be of use to locals and which could grow in local climatic conditions like imli, mahua, bel, aonla, bamboo, sheesham, siras, neem, kanji, mango, chilbil, peepal, banyan, pakad, jamun and others will be planted.

I fully agree with Mr. M P

I fully agree with Mr. M P Agnihotri. I would appreciate, if he would get in touch with me by email so that we can work together to re-forest the area.

The scheme of plantation of trees

Dear Sir,
The scheme of plantation of trees which suit to the local soil and need of the people is praiseworthy. It needs proper implementation. Forest Deptt. may take it as their task plan and implement it in a planned manner. There should be some sort of monitoring by relevant authorities so that it does not fall prey of beaurocratic lethargy. Gram Panchayats can play a vital role but firstly there is no awareness of the program among them and secondly they do not act unless there is pressure from higher ranks. If these two aspects are taken due care by the monitoring authorities the program will be successful and help resolving draught problem in the days to come.

M P Agnihotri,
Vill. Mabai, PO Ramtoriya, Dt. Chhatarpur (MP).
