The Union health ministry has given in-principle approval for setting up an AIIMS-like institute in Jhansi in Bundelkhand. The existing Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, which is spread over 350 acres, may be used as the nucleus of the proposed institute, it is learnt.

Lucknow: In a bid to strengthen the medical education department in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned additional Rs 91.91 crore.

Medical Education minister Lalji Varma said, "To improve medical education system, to impart training to officers and employees and their accommodation facilities the state government has decided to sanction an additional fund."
